CellBank, an initiative of the blood cancer research charity Blood Cancer UK, is comprised of samples donated by children diagnosed with leukaemia in the UK. These samples are available for use by UK-based researchers in peer-reviewed and fully-costed research projects into childhood leukaemia.
CellBank also collects samples from children diagnosed with aplastic anaemia and other bone marrow failure disorders. More information is provided here.
In 2017, CellBank was named Biobank of the Year by the UK Clinical Research Collaboration Tissue Directory and Coordination Centre (UKCRC TDCC) and was runner up in 2019, receiving an 'Honourable Mention'.
Cellbank is now merging with the CCLG Tissue Bank, to include biological samples from children with solid tumours. Together we are creating the UK's leading resource dedicated to storing samples and data of cancers affecting children and young people, called VIVO Biobank.
